Part. min. old rest., part. min. old retouching. The theme of the standard bearer is known in many variations and repetitions. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam today preserves an authentic painting of the same subject from the Rotschild Collection, painted in 1636. A studio work of the standard bearer is in the British Museum in London. Friedländer mentions the version offered here, which may have been created in the studio, as early as 1938.
