CIRCLE OR SCHOOL OF ABRAHAM BLOEMAERT 25 December 1564 Gorinchem (Holland) - 27 January 1651 Utrecht THE BAPTISM OF CHRIST, PROBABLY AROUND 1600 Oil on walnut panel. 25 x 20 cm (F. 33 x 29 cm). Part. min. paint losses, lower centre panel with minimal cracking. Frame. The study offered here is close to paintings by Cornelis van Haarlem and shows in parts an altered smaller section of Abraham Bloemaert's paintings of the 'Baptism of Christ' from 1598/1600 and 1646 respectively. Figures have been added to the left edge of the picture, the tense vertical format, in the version offered here, replaces the wide format of the large variant from 1646.
