THE DANUBE SCHOOL IN THE CIRCLE OF LUCAS CRANACH THE OLDER 4 October 1472 Kronach, Upper Franconia - 16 October 1553 Weimar LANDSCAPE WITH THE CORONATION OF THE VIRGIN, SURROUNDED BY A BAND OF CLOUDS AND FLOATING ANGELS, c. 1510-20 Oil tempera on softwood panel (cradled), gilded and partially embossed background, crowns and robes partially heightened in gold. 94 x 72 cm (F. 106.5 x 84.5 cm). Part. old rest., old retouching. Frame. Literature: The painting is registered in the RKD in The Hague under the number '1802715' as a 'South German master of the Danube region, active around 1510-1520'. Provenance: South German private collection. Formerly the Max Singenwald-Leipzig collection, sold at auction in 1927 at Rudolf Bangel GmbH, Frankfurt a.M., catalogue no. 112.
