ATTRIBUTED TO BICCI DI LORENZO 1368/1373 Florence - 6 May 1452 Ibid MADONNA WITH CHILD (CENTRAL ALTARPIECE) Tempera on chalk ground on wooden panel (cradled). Nimbuses, border and robe partly punched, background gilded. 86x41 cm (F. 92x45 cm) (pointed triangular finish). Verso: Old paper label of the Federal Monuments Office as well as old customs export stamp. Furthermore Luchtenberg Collection number: 'G/m 1'. Part. dam., old rest., paint losses, paint partially detached. Frame. Three-quarters portrait in frontal pose, the head surrounded by a white veil slightly turned to the side. Wearing a dark blue dress, richly patterned with gold ornaments, and a coat gathered up at the sides, trimmed with richly patterned gold borders. With both hands she holds the Christ Child wrapped in white cloth. According to the foundation, formerly expert opinion by Prof. Wilhelm Suida as Bicci di Lorenzo. Provenance: Luchtenberg Foundation.
