The Dutch artist Michiel van Mierevelt, son of a goldsmith and engraver, quickly established himself as a successful portrait painter during his studies in Utrecht. He later became the court painter to Prince Moritz von Oranien. During his lifetime, he painted many important figures of wealth, including the princely couple Amalie zu Solms-Braunfels and Frederik Hendrik von Oranien. Amalie zu Solms-Braunfels was an important figure of the 17th century. She played a significant role, particularly in the political events of her time. She was also highly esteemed for her diplomatic skills, outstanding intelligence and education. She was also active in the fields of art and literature, which has had a significant influence on Dutch culture to this day. Frederik Hendrik, on the other hand, played a significant role in the military and politics of the 17th century. Under the influence of his wife, he fought for the independence and power of the Netherlands. To this day, the couple stands not only for a political alliance, but also for mutual respect and affection.
