Description
AN IVORY CARVED NETSUKE OF A SHISHI Japan, 18th century Ivory. H. 3.2 cm. The netsuke is carved as a roaring lion standing on four feet on a rock, with its head turn back, eyes inlaid with mother of pearl. With traces of use, partially cracked. This lot contains elephant ivory and is therefore subject to CITES regulations with restrictions on imports or exports. It is a buyer's responsibility to obtain any export or import licences, certifications and any other required documentation. Certificate for intra-EU trade is issued. Provenance: From the important collection of the Chemnitz entrepreneur and manufacturer Fritz Niescher (1889-1974).
