Description
AN IVORY CARVED NETSUKE OF A GROUP OF SHELLS Japan, late 19th century Ivory. H. 2.6 cm. This netsuke is carved as a group of eight openwork clam shells, five on the bottom and three on top, with eight famous landscape views of Omi Province (Ômi Hakkei) depicted inside the shells, and signed "Nagamitsu" on the bottom. With traces of use, slightly abraded. Literatur: This netsuke can be compared with lot 444 sold at Lempertz in auction in June 2019 and a collection with number A.16-1918 in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
