Description
A VERY FINE AND IMPORTANT IVORY CARVED NETSUKE OF A SHISHI Japan, 18th century Ivory. H. 3.1 cm. The netsuke is carved as a recumbent lion with its head turned to the right and scratching its ear, signed "Tomotada" in a rectangular reserve. With traces of age and use, partially cracked. This lot contains elephant ivory and is therefore subject to CITES regulations with restrictions on imports or exports. It is a buyer's responsibility to obtain any export or import licences, certifications and any other required documentation. Certificate for intra-EU trade is issued. Provenance: From the important collection of the Chemnitz entrepreneur and manufacturer Fritz Niescher (1889-1974).
