EIN SELTENES SAISHIKI-GESCHNITZTES NETSUKE EINES SENNIN
Description
A RARE SAISHIKI CARVED NETSUKE OF A SENNIN Japan, 18th century Wood. H. 10.2 cm. The netsuke in the style of Ogawa Haritsu is carved as a sennin wearing a flowing robe of fine texture, with a gourd in his right hand and a bowl in his left. With traces of age and pigment, partially damaged and abraded, probably restored. This netsuke can be compared with lot 368 sold at Lempertz in auction in June 2022 and a Gama Sennin in the Hull Grundy Collection in the British Museum. Another groups of Netsuke of very similar shape and size identified as made by Ogawa Haritsu was published by Ben Peters in the International Netsuke Society Journal Bd. 41. (Winter 2021). Provenance: From the important collection of the Chemnitz entrepreneur and manufacturer Fritz Niescher (1889-1974).
