Description
A BRONZE 'SHOULAO AND DEER' CENSER China, Ming Dynasty Bronze. H. ca. 37.7 cm. The God of Longevity Shoulao is seated on the back of a recumbent deer, holding a scroll in one hand and a staff in the other. He has a high forehead, a smiling expression, gently arched eyebrows and eyes, and a long beard. The deer holds a leafy branch in its mouth. With trace of age, partially damaged.
