Description
A FIRE-GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF SHADBHUJA MAHAKALA Tibet, 18th century Bronze/Turquoise. H. 27.5 cm. The Mahakala stands on two prone figures with elephant heads and human bodies atop a lotus base, with six arms. He wears a skull crown, his flame-shaped hair raised and bristling, and large ear ornaments. His eyes are wide open and his image is quite ferocious. He holds a kapala bowl, a curved knife, and other attributes. With his upper body uncovered and a large belly, he is adorned with jewelry, including a necklace and armlets. A flaming aureole rises behind him. With traces of age, partially abraded and damaged, some of the gems are missing.
