Description
KANSHOSAI TOYO ATTRIBUTED, A RARE GOLD LACQUER AND INLAID FOUR-CASE INRO Japan, 19th century Lacquerware. H. of inro 10 cm, D. of netsuke 4.3 cm. The inro with a muranashiji ground is decorated with a continuous design of two hawks in gold and silver takamakie, standing on an inlaid perch in tsuishu. The finial and the base of the perch are inlaid with filigree and mother-of-pearl. The interior of the inro is of nashiji, signed "Toyo" on the bottom. The inro is accompanied with an ivory two-part manju netsuke depicting a lady in low relief, signed "Ichieisai Komin" with kakihan. With traces of age and use, partially chipped. This lot contains elephant ivory and is therefore subject to CITES regulations with restrictions on imports or exports. It is a buyer's responsibility to obtain any export or import licences, certifications and any other required documentation. Certificate for intra-EU trade is issued. Provenance: From the important collection of the Chemnitz entrepreneur and manufacturer Fritz Niescher (1889-1974).
