KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI, WAKAN EHON SAKIGAKE Japan, 1836 Woodblock print. 22.9x15.8 cm. This is the opening volume of a series of three books devoted to famous warriors, depicted in the characteristic line drawings which appear in the books of the 1830s, such as the T'ang poems, the ehron kokyo and the hundred views of fuji. With three seals by Hayashi Tadamasa on the first and last pages, as well as on the lower side of the book. With traces of age, partially damaged and creased. Literatur: This book can be compared with a collection with number 2013.733 in the metropolitan Museum of Art. Provenance: From a private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia, previously Herbert Egenolf.
