Description
GERMAN SCULPTOR Active around 1900 THE REAPER Bronze, dark patinated, on square plinth and marble base (h. 5 cm). Overall h. 66,5, w. 20, d. 20,5 cm, weight approx. Marked on the reverse of the plinth 'Guss v. Pirner & Franz, Dresden', Luchtenberg collection inventory number 'B/n 40'. Full-size depiction of a reaper, in bodice, high gathered skirt, apron and headscarf, with both arms grasping a bundle of ears of corn, in the right also holding a sickle. Part. rubbed and loss of patina, on one arm small dent, min. traces of oxidation. Provenance: Luchtenberg Foundation.
