Description
HANS GSELL 1884 Hagenau - 1914 Savonnieres 'NOBLE FALCON' (SITTING FALCON) around 1912 Bronze, dark patina, glass eyes, on a large, octagonal marble base. Total h. 90, w. 22, d. 21 cm, weight approx. 28.28 kg. Signed on the back of the plinth 'H. Gsell' on the back of the plinth. Hans Gsell was a renowned sculptor active in the first half of the 20th century. Gsell created numerous sculptures, including portrait busts and figurative representations, often made from materials such as bronze and marble. His works have been shown in many important exhibitions and are represented in various public and private collections. A similar design is illustrated in the Rheinlande Monatschrift from 1912. Fully sculpted depiction of a falcon sitting on a hemisphere. Part. Loss of patina, rubbed and bumped. Literature: Cf.
