Description
AUGUSTE RODIN 1840 Paris - 1917 Meudon (after) LYING HAND Probably around 1950 Bronze, dark patina, on a naturalistic plinth and marble base (h. 3.5 cm). Overall h. 16.5, w. 33.5, d. 17 cm, weight approx. 9.49 kg. Marked to the side of the arm 'A. Rodin' and foundry mark 'Rudier Fondeur', posthumous casting. This exceptional, rare version of a "Reclining Hand" by Auguste Rodin is previously unknown on the art market and represents a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The hand, in its calm yet powerful pose, exudes a quiet intensity and becomes a symbol of the importance of body and movement in Rodin's work. This cast was made after Rodin's death and presents the fine attention to detail for which the artist is known. Minor loss of patina. Expertise: Original invoice from 1965 available.
