Description
Franz Seraph von Lenbach 1836 Schrobenhausen - 1904 Munich PIFFERARO Oil on canvas. 63 x 20 cm (F. 71 x 28 cm). Inscribed "Roma" on the front. Verso: labeled and dated in pencil on the canvas, along with a written confirmation by Josephine Lenbach, the artist's wife, attesting that the painting was created by Lenbach. Framed. This study was probably created during Franz von Lenbach's stay in Italy. In 1858, the artist traveled to the south. In Rome, Lenbach dedicated himself intensively to the study of architectural monuments, including the Arch of Titus, and began further developing his Italian sketches in the winter. This work may be the result of his observations of rural life and the local characters, which also found expression in his larger compositions.
