RARE STOBWASSER SNUFF BOX German, Braunschweig, Stobwasser, 1st third of the 19th century. Paper mache, painted black, polychrome oil varnish painting. D. 9.5 cm, H. 2 cm. Inscribed on the lid: 'Joseph und Potiphars Gemahlin nach Cignani'; inscribed '11553 Stobwassers Fabrik' on the bottom. Round shape with plug-in lid. On the lid polychrome figural scene 'Joseph and Potiphar's wife' after a painting by Carlo Cignani (1628 - 1719). Part. rubbed, min. dam., craquelure.
