HANS TRIMBORN 1891 Plittersdorf - 1979 Norden 'FEMALE HEAD' (C. 1916) Oil on canvas, edged, relined. 33,5 x 23,5 cm. Unsigned. Verso: inscr. by an unknown hand on stretcher. Min. soiled., part. min. rubbed. Unframed. Literature: Janssen WVZ 16011-103; Rulffes 1993, p. 25. Provenance: Estate of Hans Trimborn; most recently private collection Hesse. Hans Trimborn served voluntarily as a medical student with the Red Cross during the WWI in 1914. At the same time, he created sketches of landscapes and people from his immediate surroundings. His classmate Paul Adolf Seehaus, who was friends with August Macke and received drawing lessons from him, also influenced Trimborn in his autodidactic work. Im 1916 ,Trimborn was tranferred to St Vith, Eifel, where he continued to create works in the style of Rhenish Expressionism.
