OHNE TITEL (AUS DER SERIE 'ARCTICA ISLANDICA') (2010)
Description
HELGA SCHMIDHUBER 1972 Wiesbaden - lives and works in Berlin and Bad Schwalbach UNTITLED (FROM THE SERIES 'ARCTICA ISLANDICA') (2010) Mixed media on nettle. 240 x 190 cm. Verso: Signed and dated on the reverse and inscribed on the frame rail. Provenance: Hesse corporate collection. Helga Schmidt works with series. This painting from 2010 belongs to the series 'Arctica Islandica'. Arctica Islandica is the Latin name for the so-called Icelandic mussel, a species of mussel that is widespread from the coasts of North America to the Baltic Sea. In 2007, a British research team found a specimen off the North Sea coast of Iceland that was between 405 and 410 years old. This makes it the oldest animal known to science. This information is important because you have to know what you are looking at to recognise it. On the far right is a black raven, in the middle a so-called white-breasted raven, which is now extinct. This particular species was found in Iceland until the middle of the 20th century. On the left side you can see a cat mummy. The molecule in the foreground is a gas. Impressed by Iceland's wealth of energy, Schmidhuber transfers this energy to the picture.
