UNTITLED (HOLLOW MIRROR OBJECT) (1975) Round, semi-transparent concave mirror on mirror surface, on wood, with illuminant, in plexiglass frame. 61.4 x 61.4 x 18.4 cm. Signed and dated 'Luther (19)75' on the reverse and with red stamps 'LUTHER LICHT u. MATERIE' and 'SEHEN IST SCHÖN'. Minimal scratches on the front of the frame. In working condition. Adolf Luther was born in Uerdingen near Krefeld in 1912 and is considered one of the main representatives of kinetic art and optical art. Since traditional pictorial means and forms of representation no longer met the demands of the time, Luther devoted himself to dematerialisation, the destruction of various materials and assemblages as early as the beginning of the 1960s. In 1962 he created his first light objects, 'Lichtschleusen', from broken glass. In 1963 Luther worked with spectacle lenses and lens objects, as well as with concave and convex concave mirrors that projected inverted models forwards into the room. Adolf Luther's 'concave mirror objects' serve to create a new perception of light. The viewer and his surroundings are actively involved in the effect of the picture and inevitably become part of the work of art through their reflection.
