RARE EAST INDIAN BURGOMASTER CHAIR Probably Surabaya, Indonesia, around 1750 Jati and teak wood, hand-carved, round seat, elaborate floral motifs, on six curved legs and lion's paw feet. Rh. 76, sh. 43, w. 82 d. 68 cm. The term 'Burgomaster chair', 'Burgemeesterstoel' or 'Königsstuhl' was often used to describe pieces of furniture dedicated to the mayor, high dignitaries or local officials of the East Indian colonies.
