CELLOBOGEN OTTO ALBERT HOYER PARISER
Description
CELLO BOW OTTO ALBERT HOYER PARISER Markneukirchen, Germany, 1941 Octagonal stick, star-shaped silver eye and decorations, ebony frog, thumb leather, mother-of-pearl plate. L. 70,5 cm, weight ca. 80g. Violoncello bow marked 'Otto A. Hoyer Pariser', dat. 1941, miniature self-portrait incorporated in the frog. Otto Albert Hoyer descended from the famous Markneukirchen bow making family Hoyer, whose lineage goes back to Carl Wilhelm Hoyer (1772 - 1836). Otto Hoyer studied under Eugène Sartory in Paris and still bears the nickname 'Parisian' as a tribute to his teacher. Otto Hoyer worked in Markneukirchen until his old age and was one of the finest bow makers of his guild. This cello bow from 1941 is listed and illustrated in Volume 1 of German Bow Makers and shows the French style and working technique like his well-known violin bows. Special is the miniature self-portrait incorporated into the frog, showing Otto Hoyer in his workshop. Min. bumped. Literature: Grünke, Schmidt, Zunterer: Deutsche Bogenmacher Band 1 (1783-1945), Stuttgart, 2000, p.86 and 89, fig. 3. Provenance: Private collection Rhineland.
