Description
RARE FIDEL (ZLOBCOKI) ZLOBCOKI FIDEL HIGHLAND FIDDLER Poland, 20th century. Wood, poligonal body; four strings, trapezoidal tuning finger pegs. H. 59, body length 35 cm. Unmarked. The zlóbcoki is a traditional fiddle from Eastern Europe, especially from the region around Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which is unique in its construction and timbre. This rare instrument belongs to the family of stringed instruments and is often associated with the rural folk music of the 18th and 19th centuries. The zlobcoki is characterized by its small, narrow body and a flatter top, which gives it a distinctive timbre that is often described as rough and lively. Traditionally, the zlobcoki was used by rural musicians and played a central role in accompanying folk dances and festivals. These instruments were usually made in small workshops and often by hand, making each one unique. 2 strings missing, bumped, partially damaged. Literature: Cf. Steszewski: Zlóbcoki - The Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments. Volume 5, Oxford, 2014, p. 388. Provenance: Private collection Münster.
