Verso: on stretcher label of the Department of Expertise of the State Tretyakov Gallery. ?onstantin Bogaevsky is a key figure of the Cimmerian School of painting, which emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and united artists working on the southern coast of Crimea, in Feodosia and Koktebel. The main theme of his work is ancient Cimmeria, the area of the northern Black Sea coast and the Azov region sung about by Homer. In his works, he creates a heroic-romantic landscape that emphasises the connection between his homeland and the ancient world and the great Hellenic culture. In his endeavour to escape reality, characteristic for the aesthetics of the early 20th century, he immerses himself in a dream world of a beautiful, unusually harmonious, unprecedented land.
