A FINE ICON SHOWING THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD Russian, Palekh, early 19th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. On the upper part of the image a semi-circular segment of sky opening to reveal the God. At the left side the archangel Gabriel advancing to the enthroned Mother of God, her feet resting on a pedestal. The profusion of red and green elements highlighted with gold. The dense architectural setting rendered in green and ochre, the ornamentation of the buildings shown in grisaille scrolls. Minimally restored. 31.5 x 27 cm.
