A LARGE AND RARE ICON SHOWING THE MOTHER OF GOD LAMENTING OVER THE BODY OF CHRIST Russian, 18th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The halo made of gold. Her hair loose on her shoulders with a sorrowful expression, supporting the lifeless body of her Son, his miniature figure clad in a loin cloth and lying on a shroud, painted with saturated colours. The background and border stripped to gesso, partially restored. 53.7 x 39.6 cm.
