A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING CHRIST THE SAVIOUR WITH A SILVER-GILT AND CHAMPLEVÉ ENAMEL FRAME Russian, circa 1870 (icon), Russian, St. Petersburg, Sazikov, circa 1870 (frame) Oil on metal laid down on wood with velvet backing. The border finely enamelled in red, blue and white. Marked with city hallmark, 84 standard, master's mark 'Sazikov' in Cyrillic and Imperial warrant. The reverse applied with a silver plaque inscribed in English: 'St. John XV 9, 10, 11. 12. 14. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If you keep my commandments, even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you might be full.
