AN IMPORTANT ICON SHOWING THE KAZANSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD WITH AN EMBROIDERED SILVEr-GILT OKLAD WITHIN ORIGINAL CASE Russian, Moscow, circa 1900 (icon), Russian, Moscow, Orest Kurlyukov, 1896-1908 (oklad) Tempera on wood panel with velvet backing. The silver-gilt oklad repoussé and finely chased. The Mother of God's and the Christ Child's vestments delicately picked out with seed pearls, the haloes and corner pieces decorated with cloisonné enamel in pastel colours on white ground. The borders with a scrolling foliate pattern. Marked with assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'O. KURLYUKOV' in Cyrillic. In the original fitted Kurlyukov velvet-lined case. 31 x 26.3 cm.
