A FINE ICON SHOWING THE PROTECTING VEIL OF THE MOTHER OF GOD (POKROV) WITH A SILVER OKLAD Russian, 17th century (icon), Russian, Moscow, 1856 (riza) Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg, with velvet backing. Overlaid with a silver riza engraved with scrolling foliage. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark. The background stripped to gesso, restorations, damages. On the reverse Cyrillic inscription. 31 x 26.5 cm.
