A FINE ICON OF THE RESURRECTION AND DESCENT WITH TWELVE MAJOR FEASTS Russian, circa 1875 Tempera on wood panel. The main scene, framed by a border of foliate scrolls, illustrating at the lower part the Descent of Christ into Hades, the latter depicted as a rocky gorge. The detailed composition executed delicately with saturated colours, on gold ground. The spandrels showing the Evangelists. The border decorated with engraved stylized patterns emulating the metal oklads of contemporary icons. on the reverse inventory label 'BURMAGIN' in CYRILLIC. The edges minimally chipped, minimally worn. 35 x 30.5 cm.
