A LARGE ICON SHOWING THE KIEVIAN DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD WITH A SILVER-GILT OKLAD AND RELICS Russian, circa 1800 (icon), Russian, Moscow, 1810 (oklad) Tempera on wood panel with double kovcheg, laid down on a wood panel. Executed against a golden background. The silver-gilt oklad chased within border of ruffled acanthus and flowers, with past-set haloes. Marked on base rim with city hallmark, 84 standard and master's mark 'IM' in Cyrillic. Restorations. 28.5 x 42 cm. This impressive icon portrays the Dormition (Assumption) of the Mother of God in the Kievan tradition. The image is adorned with a finely crafted silver-gilt oklad, intricately detailed, and enriched with sacred relics.
