A LARGE AND FINE ICON SHOWING THE TRANSFIGURATION OF CHRIST Russian, Moscow, Armory Chamber School, circa 1700 Tempera on wood panel. The folds of the garments painted in gold assist. The refined faces executed in brown and modelled with the use of red and green shades. Executed in extremely fine painting by a master of the Kremlin workshop in Moscow, this icon is characterized by the subtle shading of the flesh tones and the sculptural rendering of the garments, with deep folds in predominantly red and green hues. The upper and lower border added, minor areas of retouching. 45 x 34.8 cm.
