A LARGE TRIPTYCH DEPICTING ST. GEORGE SLAYING THE DRAGON, FLANKED BY ST. ALEXIUS, THE MAN OF GOD, AND ST. VALENTINE WITH A SILVER-GILT OKLAD Russian, late 19th century (icons), Russian, Moscow, Sergey Ivanovitch Agafonov, 1896.1908 (oklad) Oil on metal. The equestrian saint in armour and a cape, plunging his spear into the mouth of the coiled dragon, in the background the princess Elisaba standing in front of the walls of Silene, the parcel-gilt oklad finely executed, with a raised border. Marked with assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'S.A.' in Cyrillic. The metal mount engraved with strapwork. 45 x 55 cm (extended).
