A VERY LARGE ICON SHOWING THE PROPHET AARON FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Russian, 16th century Tempera on wood panel. Executed on a gold ground. The aged prophet shown in three quarter view, carrying a scroll inscribed with his prophecy. His face rendered with contrasting shades, the composition dominated by tones of green and red. The lower border restored, minor areas of retouching. 54 x 42.6 cm.
