A LARGE AND VERY FINE ICON OF ST. NICHOLAS OF MYRA Russian, Palekh, early 19th century Tempera on wood panel. The figures finely painted with bright colours, standing out against the golden background. The saint portrayed half-length, blessing and carrying the inscribed Gospels with his left veiled hand, the full-size figures of Christ and his Mother in almond-shaped glories offering the saint his attributes, surrounded by sixteen scenes, each narrating an event from the saint's life. The edges minimally chipped. 51 x 42.2 cm.
