AN ICON SHOWING THE WARRIOR SAINTS STS. DEMETRIUS AND NESTOR Greek, probably Mount Athos, 17th century Tempera on wood panel. The frame carved with foliate patterns.On the lower register the equestrian Sts. Demetrius and Nestor. The two saints, frontally depicted, are painted with vibrant colours with gold highlights against a dark background. Each in elaborate gilt armour, holding a lance and shield. Christ emerging from the Heavens, with both his arms extended blessing. Traces of a Greek inscription in red on the lower border. Minor losses. 43.7 x 29 cm.
