Description
A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING THE GLYKOPHILOUSA MOTHER OF GOD FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Cretan, 16th century Tempera on wood panel. Portrayed half-length, in three-quarter view, the Mother of God facing the onlooker, with her right hand supporting the Child, embracing and bringing him closer to her. The flesh modelled in light tan colour, brightened by natural tones, the features accentuated through delicate white brushstrokes. All decorated with intense chrysography, the haloes with punched patterns, against a brilliant gold background. Vertical crack restored, paint blisterings, retouching. 101 x 66 cm.
