A MONUMENTAL AND FINE ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD OF THE KIEV CAVES (PECHERSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD) Russian, Kostroma, 1st third 18th century Tempera on wood panel. Finely executed against a golden background. Seated on a tall, carved and gilded wooden throne, the Mother of God gazing at the beholder while tenderly supporting her son, his hand gesturing in benediction. Flanked by a saint at either side: Sts. Pelagia and Yuliana. The garments with dense, dazzling chrysography. Minimally restored. 69.8 x 44.2 cm.
