Description
A VERY FINE DATED ICON SHOWING THE SYNAXIS OF THE ARCHANGELS Russian, dated 1854 Tempera on wood panel. An assembly of angels, each bearing a heraldic staff and wearing Ecclesiastical vestments, the two angels in the foreground supporting a medallion with the image of Christ Emmanuel blessing and holding a closed scroll, the roundel's background scattered with stars, the rim with golden rays. Short crack on the lower border restored. On the reverse Cyrillic dedication inscription, dated '1854'. 35.8 x 29.7 cm.
