A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING THE MANDYLION WITH A SILVER-GILT BASMA Russian, circa 1879 (icon), Russian, Moscow, Antip Kuzmichev, 1879 (basma) Tempera on wood panel. The halo made of gold. The icon finely painted with extensive ornamental detail. The borders overlaid with a silver-gilt basma engraved with scrolling foliage. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'A.K.'. Minor areas of retouching. 31 x 26.8 cm.
