A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING THE MOTHER OF GOD 'OF THE BURNING BUSH' Russian, early 19th century Tempera on wood panel with double kovcheg. Finely painted in miniature with the Mother of God at the centre of the complex composition, superimposed on prisms of red and green light painted en grisaille with angels holding attributes and the symbols of the Evangelists, and forming an eight-pointed star, the corners of the panel with representations of Old Testament visions prophesying he coming of Christ. 31.7 x 26.8 cm.
