A FINE, LARGE AND VERY RARE ICON SHOWING THE KAZANSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD WITHIN A SURROUND SHOWING HER LEGEND Russian, Palekh, early 19th century Tempera on wood panel. Christ raising his hand in benediction and the Mother of God leaning towards Him, painted traditionally, the red and gold chrysography of Christ's himation echoed in the fine detail of the Mother of God's maphorion. The borders decorated with sumptuous foliate patterns, rendered delicately, the garments with elaborate chrysography, the background in gold. With miniature depictions of the Evangelists at each corner. Minimally restored. 43.9 x 37 cm.
