ALFRED BOUCHER 1850 Nogent-sur-Seine - 1934 Aix-les-Bains 'LA PHILOSOPHIE DE L'HISTOIRE' White marble with natural veining, partly in relief. H. 68, w. 28, d. 11,5 cm. Signed on the front 'A. Boucher' on the front. Sculptural depiction of a female nude, standing by a rock, holding her hands to her head. In the background is a sailing ship in low relief. Alfred Boucher exhibited the relief 'The History of Philosophy' at the Salon in Paris in 1898 and at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. A comparable relief can be found in the Musée de Nogent-sur-Seine. Part. min. rubbed and bumped, slight age-related soiling, part. bumped and mount on the reverse. Literature: Cf. J.
