Description
MARIA IMMACULATA IN THE WALL SHRINE South German, 17th/18th c. Ivory, dragon carved from wood, on red velvet, in small glazed oak wall shrine (h. 50x40x18 cm). H. 20, w. 12, d. 3 cm. Luchtenberg collection inventory number 'B/b 34'. Sculptural representation of Mary, looking heavenward, wearing wrinkled robe and flowing cloak. She is carrying the Christ child, who with a long cross staff, is stabbing at the dragon on which Mary is standing. Part. rubbed, min. dam. Provenance: Luchtenberg Foundation.
