GISLEBERTUS (FRENCH SCULPTOR IN THE 12TH CENTURY) (after) PAIR OF RELIEFS 'RECLINING ADAM AND EVA OF AUTUN' Probably France, in the Romanesque style Terracotta, relief, framed (R. 31 x 41.5 x cm). Each h. 17, w. 32, d. 4. After the destroyed original on the door of the former North Wally portal of Saint-Lazare Cathedral in Autun. Relief sculpture of Eve and Adam after the original from the north portal of Autun Cathedral. The relief shows Eve bending forward, whispering with one hand to her mouth and holding the forbidden fruit of knowledge in the other. The serpent can be seen at the upper edge of the picture. The counterpart shows Adam reclining in paradise. The original relief was destroyed in 1766 on the orders of a bishop, but was rediscovered in the second half of the 19th century during the demolition of a gray stone house in Autun. The original relief of Eve is now on display in 'Le Musée Rolin'. The relief of Adam is considered lost.
